Terms of use
Effective 16 October 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and the developer of ShawNotch ("I" or "me") about using ShawNotch and this website. By downloading or using ShawNotch, you agree to them. They don't take away any rights you have as a consumer under the law where you live.
Trial and licence
- You can use ShawNotch free for 72 hours (3 days) from when you first open it. After that, you need a licence key to keep using it.
- A licence lets you use ShawNotch on up to 3 Macs that you own or control, for your own use. It doesn't expire.
- Your licence key is for you. Don't share, sell or publish it. I may deactivate a key that has been shared publicly or bought fraudulently.
- You're buying a licence to use ShawNotch, not ownership of the software. ShawNotch stays mine.
Buying and refunds
- ShawNotch is sold through Lemon Squeezy, which acts as reseller and merchant of record and handles payment, invoices and sales tax. Lemon Squeezy's terms apply to the purchase itself.
- Prices are in US dollars. Tax is added at checkout where it applies.
- Refunds follow the refund policy: within 14 days, no questions asked.
Updates
Updates to ShawNotch 1 are free for licence holders. A future major version could be sold separately; your licence would keep working with ShawNotch 1. Features may change over time, especially when macOS changes.
How ShawNotch works with macOS
ShawNotch relies on parts of macOS that Apple can change at any time, including some Apple doesn't document. A macOS update may stop a feature working until I can fix it, and I can't promise every feature can always be fixed. While Music Mode is on, ShawNotch changes macOS's icon, widget and folder colour setting, and puts yours back when you switch it off or quit.
What you may not do
- Copy, change or redistribute ShawNotch, except as the law allows.
- Reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble it, except where the law allows it regardless of this term.
- Use it to break the law or anyone's rights.
Open-source software
ShawNotch includes open-source software, including MediaRemoteAdapter (BSD 3-Clause licence). Those parts are covered by their own licences, which are listed in ShawNotch's settings and included with the app.
Warranty and liability
ShawNotch is provided as it is. As far as the law allows, I don't promise it will be free of errors or work without interruption, and I'm not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for more than the amount you paid for your licence. Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law doesn't allow to be limited, such as for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence.
Trademarks
Mac, MacBook, AirPods, AirDrop and Apple Music are trademarks of Apple Inc. Spotify is a trademark of Spotify AB. ShawNotch isn't affiliated with or endorsed by Apple or Spotify.
Which law applies
These terms are governed by the laws of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. If you're a consumer, you keep the protections of the law where you live, and you can bring a claim in the courts there.
Changes
I may update these terms. Changes apply to versions released after the change, and the date at the top shows when they last changed.
